Dr. Matthews joined the research team of the University of California Agricultural Issues Center as a post doctoral scholar on April 1, 2008. Prior to his arrival at AIC, Dr. Matthews spent the past ten years at the University of Missouri completing both an M.S. and Ph.D. with the Department of Agricultural Economics. The focus of his Ph.D. work was in the area of producer owned cooperative organizations and the governance roles of the cooperative board of directors. Since joining AIC, Dr. Matthews has focused his research efforts on various projects ranging from the economic implications of policy changes on California agriculture, assessing the value of international exports of California produced commodities and providing economic analysis to various agricultural industry groups within California.
